'This
Is Spinal Tap' is genuinely one of the funniest films ever made. It is a 1984
documentary -or 'rockumentary'- about Spinal Tap's distastrous 1982 tour to
support their 'Smell The Glove' album. It was directed by Marty Di Bergi (Rob
Reiner), and at the time of the movie, Tap's line-up consisted of David, Nigel,
and Derek, as well as keyboardist Viv Savage and drummer Mick Shrimpton. 'T.I.S.P.'
also included a bevy of cameo performances by the likes of Billy Crystal,
Anjelica Huston, Fran Drescher and Paul Shaffer just to mention a few. With
its bounty of ever-quotable lines ('These go up to 11'), ace performances
and especially rockin' music, 'This Is Spinal Tap' has rightfully earned a
massive and loyal cult following.
